| Sycamore Falls in the Spring |

Saturday, June 23, Paul and I set out for Williams, AZ hoping to hike
Bill Williams Mountain only to discover that the Forest Service had
closed the trail due to extreme fire danger. This area had not had
adequate rainfall for many weeks therefore extremely dry. Sycamore Rim
Trail was recommended to us as an alternate trail for the day. This
trail is in the Kaibab National Forest and makes a12 mile loop along
Sycamore Canyon. We were in for quite a treat. First we saw beautiful
pools of lily pads. The canyon kept getting deeper the further we hiked
reaching 200' to a monumental gorge. We followed the signs to Sycamore
Falls (which are quite spectacular in the Spring after the snow melt).
I found several photos of the Falls in the Spring. This area is a
favorite for rock climbers due to the cracks in the rocks that make for
easier access. Last we passed through an area named Pomeroy Tanks. This
was a long but easy hike with a lot of interesting things to see along
the way!
